My Vision of education
Educational project:

play  game fun exploration self-discovery
team creativity laughter imagination

I am currently working on ‘’putting in the space’’ the creative tools from theater in the educational process. I have a vision of a changed educational system based on creativity, play, imagination provoking critical ability, exploration of the talents of each individual, applied team work. As I had the opportunity to study in theater schools where this was the case I experienced and observed the change ,freedom, effectiveness and happiness these educational process had. As a result I wondered what if this process had started much earlier in my education? Sometimes we all had the luck to come across some extraordinary teachers who made learning so much fun and fun is so important in learning as studies say and as we know from experience too. Some of these amazing teachers gave time to approach individually kids who learned in different ways and now we know from science that there are different types of intelligence and people learn in different ways. So , we need an educational system which will help each individual to follow their unique path, function healthily in groups and in an even bigger scale we could have citizens with high critical ability, healthy social lives, doing what is more fulfilling to them ( and therefore being more productive) in few words a healthier society and even more happiness!
In theater when someone has an idea, and so many people of the group usually have!), we say : ‘’but can you put it in the space?’’

IN THE SPACE

Volunteering:
Part 1
In May 2016 had the opportunity to volunteer with ‘’Movement on the Ground’’to help with building a theater space for refugee kids in Scaramangas hotspot outside of Athens.
When we started the problems were very obvious: so many children ,mixed ages, children who have not been in a school like setting for sometime, some aggressive behavior (kids from war zones), the psychological reality of being in a refugee camp without much for entertainment. So I thought that the first step would be to learn some basic rules and how to follow them. For this we used dance and sports exercises and with the help of amazing volunteers ,we started observing some improvement. Kids so eager to participate and following the rules and luckily language was not a a barrier with the help of Arabic speaking volunteers. Order and rules are an essential part of creativity, so we tried to teach them to the kids in a fun way. The second big step was how to use these rules to play in groups. Following the ‘’ teacher’’ came fast and not interrupting the class came second, but how could they learn to play with each other in groups?

Part 2
Fun that school! March 29- April 6 2017
the aim of this program is for children to have so much fun that they do not realize they are learning, for each child to access their own creativity, imagination, exploring the healthy way to be part of a team and last but not least to offer some alternative tools to the teachers to use in their class.

The experiment started in Papacharalampion  school in Athens, Greece, where I had the chance to collaborate with two teachers, one from first grade, Maria Xiroyianni, and the other, Alexandra Derventzi, teacher of the class that prepares children with special abilities to join the primary school. Having a lot of freedom at my disposal, thanks to Alexandra, we used theatrical tools for two weeks to teach the class in a different way in the case of the first grade and to have an experience of theater training in the atypical class. The time at our disposal was little, but beautiful things took place and there were immediate results in the pedagogical process. :)
